How Female Baldness Can Go Undetected
By: Rob D. Hawkins
The horror felt when heading towards female baldness is something that cant really be put into words. It is one thing to experience female baldness when the chances are very good your beautiful hair will grow back fully and naturally and quite another when the underlying condition presents the possibility of permanent female baldness.
Temporary female baldness can be brought about by crash dieting, poor nutrition, physical stress, psychological stress, illnesses with high fever, surgery, chemotherapy drugs, blood pressure drugs, pregnancy, and even some autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata and lupus. The march towards female baldness can be rapid such as in the case of chemotherapy drugs, slow as in the case psychological stress, or delayed as sometimes seen after pregnancy. There are some exceptions but the point is that hair loss is unpredictable both in scope and breathe.
The important thing when you are dealing with temporary hair loss to keep your body healthy with good nutrition, your circulatory system functioning properly though exercise, and your scalp follicles open through massage and topical follicle conditioners such as almond oil and aloe vera.
But when female baldness is occurring for no obvious reason the cause can sometimes be found in a condition known as androgenetic alopecia or female pattern baldness. One in four women will eventually be affected by pattern baldness. This condition is inherited and can come from either side of ones family.
Androgenetic alopecia is driven by the androgen hormone DHT which when converted from testosterone in the cell binds deep within the follicle and acts like a water faucet cutting off life giving blood to the follicle. The longer it goes continues and the greater the accumulation of DHT the more severe the damage, with some follicles dying, while others are gradually being rendered incapable of producing new growth. Female pattern baldness causes you to go bald one follicle at a time and may take 10 or more years to complete its dastardly feat. Even more troubling, this condition may have been causing you to gradually lose small amounts of hair over many years without you ever knowing there was problem.
You are probably asking how is that possible? The answer is simple, with over 100,000 scalp hairs a loss of 50 or even 350 scalp hairs over a weeks time wouldnt be noticed. The old story about when a tree falls in the middle of the forest no one notices but if enough trees fall everyone notices. That is the story of female pattern baldness.
Probably the most effective treatment for this type of condition is the topical hair growth stimulant minoxidil, which is sold over the counter. While minoxidil is not all that great at producing new quality hair growth it is quite effective a protecting healthy hair from the ravages of female baldness. It works by enlarging follicles, prolonging the growth phase, and stimulating resting hairs to grow. The downside is that once it is discontinued any new growth will be lost and balding will resume.
What Next? There are currently a handful of hair re-growth products (specially formulated for female baldness) which have been proven effective both in blocking harmful hormones and bringing the all important dead hair follicles back to life. These specially formulated products can be used both as a preventative tool, starting before hair loss becomes severe, or after loss of hair has become noticeable. Whatever the level of balding or thinning you are experiencing these products could be just what is needed to overcome this latest life challenge.
