Breast Cancer Awareness
By: Mercy Maranga
Breast cancer awareness is critical and may help in preventing or reducing the risk of breast cancer. It involves educating or sensitizing women about the disease. Creating awareness about the disease can be done through teaching. Almost every country has breast cancer foundations or organizations as well as the ministries of health that all help in sensitizing women about the disease. These institutions play a big role in creating awareness. They do this by giving people basic information in a language that is easy to understand. They will talk about the disease, give the signs and symptoms to look out for as well as talk about the available treatment methods.
Breast cancer awareness can be through seminars and workshops where experts speak to women about the subject. Sensitizing people about the disease can be by showing educational programs or documentaries about the disease.
Sometimes, people with breast cancer can also be invited to share their experiences and how they are battling or coping with the disease. Sometimes breast cancer foundations and the ministries of health of the various countries fund mammograms for women who could otherwise not afford screening for breast cancer. Breast cancer is a life-threatening disease yet it is curable if detected early.
Breast cancer detection can be done through screening. X-ray mammography and clinical breast exam are the most common screening methods. Breast cancer awareness can also be achieved by encouraging women to go regularly for screening. Through regular screening, the disease can be detected early and this may help in enhancing the chances of survival.
